Everyone knows how I feel about social media. I wrote the first book on how to unaddict yourself from it. It’s called Social Media Rehab and you can get a copy of it at SocialMedia.rehab. Since I wrote the book, I have maintained a personal page for the purpose of trolling people to use as content for this project and also to manage pages associated with brands I own or am involved in.
I meet a lot of people who tell me "You're so Lucky". You're right, I am. I've earned the right to be lucky. I'm not going to go into all my stories of hardship because quite frankly, I don't want to remember them. I don't even really look at the podcasts I've done because that's where I was, not where I am. But for those who think they are so much farther behind than me, I am going to lay out a few things that may help. That being said, if you feel so far behind relative to your fellow human, here are some things you can do to get ahead.
The age-old problem. Nobody is paying attention to what I'm saying.I can definitely say with ultimate authority that this is the absolute worst time in history to try to be heard. There is just way too much noise. Even the noise is noise. Everybody's an authority, Everybody's an expert, Everybody is "so real" that they're fake.
Look all over the internet and you will find any kind of information you want about the music business and what you “should” be out there doing. “Play for exposure”, “get more followers”, “just become great and people will find or help you”. These are some of the myths perpetuated to musicians and artists that are not helping their causes at all. Moving forward or evolution is something that most people will never do. That being said, you are at a tremendous advantage in every way if you do decide to learn from your mistakes and evolve as a person so that you can move forward. I know this might conflict with some commonly held beliefs, but that is the truth. That being said, I decided to create this top 10 list so you can move past being perfect in order to achieve greatness in whatever you do.
Everybody wants to get a record deal, but you can't count on that or anyone else to make you successful for that matter.
